Abstract
:
This study aims to assess the situation of parking lots near secondary schools in the eastern part of the city of Jeddah. It includes both public and private schools. The most prominent point is that most of the schools in the study area do not rely on the parking lots designated for school users, both students and parents, either because they are not sufficient for the needs of the school building, or because they are not available in some school buildings. Accordingly, a great part of school students uses the empty spaces next to the schools, or the streets adjacent to the schools, as an alternative to the parking lots designated for the school. Of course, disadvantages related to the lack or scarcity or road crowding near secondary schools are obvious, but these latter are analyzed carefully in the study by using a questionnaire. The available potential empty spaces that may be used were identified by using Google maps and terrain investigation. The results are quantified and then represented on maps and graphics to show what could be done. The goal is to show how schools may take advantages of the empty lands adjacent to the schools to be used in expanding the current positions though the study shows also that this depends mainly on the location of the neighborhood and the extent of its overcrowding. Some recommendations were presented at the conclusion of the thesis according to these results. Keywords: Eastern Jeddah - Male schools – Parking - Lack of parking- Potential places.
