In view of the technical development taking place in the health sector and the adoption of most health facilities on the technical side in providing their various services, the importance of exchanging knowledge between the various institutions in Saudi Arabia to achieve the goals of Vision 2030, and the need to build an electronic health system that contributes to the development of academic research in the health sector. Therefore, the study aimed to identify the role of medical records management in activating knowledge management applications in private hospitals in Saudi Arabia. The study used the descriptive survey method. The study population consisted of all employees of United Doctors Hospital and Al-Jadaani Hospital in Jeddah; the questionnaire was used as a tool for the study. The questionnaire was distributed to a simple random sample of (231) members.
The study reached a number of results, the most important of which were: The study sample strongly agreed on the most prominent practices of medical records management in private hospitals in Saudi Arabia, with a mean of (4.30 out of 5), the study sample agreed on the requirements for the success of medical records management in activating Knowledge management applications in private hospitals in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia with a mean of (4.18), the study sample strongly agreed on the impact of medical records management in activating knowledge management applications in private hospitals in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia with a mean of (4.21), and finally the study sample agreed on the obstacles that hinder the management of medical records in private hospitals in Saudi Arabia from applying knowledge management with a mean of (3.71).
In light of these results, the study presented a number of recommendations, the most important of which were: Urging the administrations of private hospitals in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to provide capable technologies to activate knowledge management applications, educating leaders in private hospitals on the importance of building trust between senior management and employees to achieve the goals of knowledge management applications, with the need to work on providing the necessary infrastructure for the application of knowledge management in private hospitals, and directing private hospital administrations in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to adopt effective strategic planning to adopt knowledge management applications.
